Food videos for home bakers, caterers and restaurants

By Muhammad Naeem · Updated October 2026 · 8 min read

Food sells with the eyes first. A short video of a cake being cut, steam rising from biryani or chocolate dripping does more than any list of flavours. Home bakers, caterers and small restaurants can make these videos with a phone, natural light and Mshopi, then turn them into orders on WhatsApp.

Light makes food look delicious

The single biggest improvement is light. Food looks best with soft daylight coming from the side or slightly behind, which brings out texture, gloss and steam. Light from the front (or the phone's flash) makes food look flat.

Angles for each kind of food

FoodBest angle
Pizza, thalis, platters, cookies, flat cakesTop-down (flat lay)
Burgers, layered cakes, drinks, stacksStraight on, at plate level
Biryani, curries, bowls, desserts in glasses45 degrees, like sitting at the table

Shoot every item from the same angle for a whole menu, so your feed looks consistent and customers can compare dishes easily.

Action shots that make people hungry

Still photos work, but movement sells food: cutting a cake to show the layers, pulling cheese, pouring sauce, drizzling chocolate, breaking a samosa, lifting a spoonful of biryani, steam rising. Film each as a separate 3–6 second clip with the phone on a stand. Five or six of these make a great video.

Use speed to make the best moments last: select a clip and set Speed to 0.5× for a slow pour, or use the Hero speed curve to slow down just the moment the cake is cut.

Menu videos with the product video maker

For a menu item or a daily special, the product video maker is fastest. Add 3–5 photos or clips and type, for example:

Chocolate fudge cake 2 lb, Rs 3,200, fresh cream, eggless option, home delivery in DHA and Gulberg, WhatsApp 0300 1234567

Choose the Fresh pastel style for bakeries and desserts or Bold sale for deals. The maker adds the price tag, features and your WhatsApp number.

Colour: appetising but real

In the Filters tab, try the Food group (Tasty, Crisp, Café, Dessert) or Food fresh in the Product group. Keep the strength moderate; overly orange curries and neon desserts look fake, and customers expect what arrives to look like the video.

What to put on screen

The Order & contact stickers include Order on WhatsApp, Call to order and Visit our shop (type your address).

Packaging and delivery shots

For home delivery, buyers also want to know the food arrives intact. Add one clip of your packaging: a sealed box, a cake board and box, labelled containers. It answers "Will it survive delivery?" before anyone asks, and it's a good place to show your logo sticker or thank-you card.

Hygiene shows

Customers notice clean surfaces, gloves, hair covers and tidy packaging in your videos. A clean, bright kitchen in the background is a trust signal; a messy one loses orders.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best light for food videos?

Soft daylight from the side or slightly behind the food, next to a window, with yellow kitchen lights turned off.

Which filter is best for food?

Try the Food group (Tasty, Crisp, Café, Dessert) or Food fresh in the Product group, at moderate strength so colours stay real.

Can home bakers make menu videos for free?

Yes. Add photos, type the item, price and delivery details, and Mshopi makes the video with a WhatsApp order card.
